At UpskillSherpa, we believe your data is yours. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and how you can control it — in plain English.

What We Collect

To provide personalized AI coaching, we collect:

• Account information: Your name and email address (managed through Clerk, our authentication provider)
• Conversation history: All messages you exchange with Sherpa
• Learning data: Your skill progress, goals, habit tracking, and learning preferences
• Voice audio: When you use voice features, your audio is sent to Deepgram for transcription, then immediately deleted after processing

How We Use Your Data

We use your data exclusively to:

• Provide AI coaching and personalized learning recommendations
• Track your progress and adapt to your learning style
• Improve Sherpa's coaching quality and product features

We never sell your data. Ever.

Who We Share With

To deliver our service, we work with the following trusted partners:

Clerk (Authentication)

Clerk manages user authentication and account security. They handle your email, name, and login credentials.

Microsoft Azure OpenAI (AI Processing)

All conversation text is sent to Microsoft Azure OpenAI to generate Sherpa's responses. Microsoft does not use your data to train their models.

Deepgram (Voice Transcription)

When you use voice features, your audio is sent to Deepgram for transcription. Audio files are immediately deleted after transcription is complete.

Azure PostgreSQL (Data Storage)

Your conversation history, learning progress, and account data are stored securely in a Microsoft-managed Azure PostgreSQL database with encryption at rest.

Your Rights

You have full control over your data:

Export Your Data

Download all your data at any time from Settings → Export Data. This includes your conversation history, learning progress, and all personal information.

Delete Your Account

Delete your account and all associated data immediately from Settings → Delete Account. This action is permanent and removes all data from our systems.

Data Retention

• Conversation messages: Kept for 90 days, then automatically deleted
• Memory summaries: Kept until you delete your account
• Account data: Kept until you delete your account

Security

We protect your data with:

• TLS encryption for all data in transit
• Azure storage encryption at rest for all stored data
• Clerk-managed authentication with industry-standard security practices

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top. We'll notify you of significant changes via email or in-app notification.
